Phantom King

customized Thunderbike Harley-Davidson Road King Special

Anything but a spook

Our Phantom King doesn’t just magically pass you by. He is the materialisation of a phantom as we understand it. If a phantom is just a ghost, or even an illusion, then here we see the materialisation of the opposite. A motorcycle cannot be more real than the Phantom King. But its reality also includes the realisation of the idea that we are looking at a former Road King. In this sense, the whole thing becomes rather spooky.

The king's new clothes

The perfect geometry: With the Bagger Rake Kit, you can fit 26″ wheels without lifting the steering head

Our client will probably win the bets, because nobody would believe the story of the 2023 Road King if they were standing in front of the Phantom King. Once again we see what new clothes can do for a king.

Bagger Rake Kit

Clothes, my arse. We had to bring out the heavy artillery to make the Road King look so wondrous. But as customisers, we have something on the shelf. It’s our Bagger Rake Kit. The Bagger Rake Kit is the materialisation of our thoughts on the bagger boom of the last decade. You remember: The front wheels were getting bigger and bigger, they were getting monstrous and that’s what people wanted.

But every customiser had to think about how to keep the caster of these monsters in order to keep them drivable. With the Bagger Rake Kit we had developed a bolt-on steering head that gave every front end a completely new geometry.

The secret of the Bagger Rake Kit

We don’t want to tie you to your desk with tedious angle calculations. You should be able to see with your naked eye how flat the fork is leaning forward thanks to the Bagger Rake Kit. This makes room for our 26-inch Spoke front wheel. And mind you, the fork is raked forward, but the headset is not. The bike keeps its flat line. Isn’t that something?

By the way, the Phantom King uses the same fork tubes as the Road King, only the headset and triple clamps are new. Another interesting side effect of the Bagger Rake Kit. With a 26″ front wheel, we recommend larger brake discs to get the proportions right. The two-tone front wheel is now slowed down by our 340mm diameter Floated Spoke discs, mounted on our own adapters to allow the calipers to cope with the larger radius. The close-fitting front fender is our Daytona model, while our Visor headlight visor adds to the aggressive look.

To get the calipers back in place, we also have the right adapters for our 340mm spoke brake discs

Flip 2 handlebars and Satin grips make the Phantom a bike you can touch and feel

Much is hidden

Our Flip 2 handlebar sits enthroned on the front end of the King. We mounted a hydraulic clutch line to it, which fits in a tighter line than the locking Bowden cable. Of course, the turn signals are well hidden under the handlebar’s satin grip. In general, much of the Phantom King is still hidden from view – it must be the name. A Star Racing camshaft literally makes the ghost go faster. This is not without a loss of comfort for the rider, as the rear swingarm now has a Nivomat suspension from Wilbers.

We tidy up the original rear fender with an inside license plate and a down & inside holder for the tail lights

For a man and his machine: the Mustang Wide Tripper solo seat

The wheel and tyres have remained

It’s worth noting that we didn’t have to change anything else on the rear of the chassis. Wheels and tires stayed as they were, because you wouldn’t have seen anything behind the panniers anyway. However, the inside license plate and the down & inside mount for the multifunction rear lights clean up the original rear fender quite a bit. And the Mustang Wide Tripper solo seat is a statement that a man wants to be alone with his bike.
