A ride in the best yarn for a good cause
Pictures by Michael Raadts
The Gentlemen’s Ride is not just an exit for classically styled motorcyclists in their best suit. It is the international event for men on café racers, bobbers or custom bikes, which is primarily a fundraiser for the research and development of remedies for prostate cancer. With more than 250 bikers from 57 countries, the event was launched by the British Don Draper in 2012. The background was not the dapper appearance of the classic biker but primarily his donation to the Cancer Fund UK.
The DGR Run brings all motorcyclists together for a good cause. It’s about strengthening the scene and about taking initiative with the fans and joining forces and spreading them with cheerfulness. Last year, 2013, more than 2,500 bikers from 64 countries worldwide took part, donating a sizeable EUR 277,000. The proceeds went to the Prostate Cancer Foundations UK, USA and Australia. This year, over 20,000 retro elegantly dressed men in suits from 220 international cities were expected. The donation countdown is currently at the fascinating donation of 778,283 euros. We are curious if the 1 million will be cracked.
As we can see on the pictures below, we also participated in the donation run this year, which led the Thunderbike team and many like-minded people on a tour from Dusseldorf to Kaldenkirchen. Also included was photographer Michael Raadts, who accompanied us throughout the ride and provided the numerous photos.
