Touring Models with Custom Paint APEX

Racing Look for Grand Touring Models

The touring models are classically used for long-distance travel, impress with their special comfort and open up new dimensions in terms of road trips. Recently, there has even been an additional effect: The Tourers can also race! They are being seen more and more frequently on racetracks, where they drive spectacular races and deliver truly brilliant performances.

So that you can also recognize their dynamism on the outside, there is now the APEX Factory Custom Paint. If you are at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the USA, you can be there for the first live presentation.

The Apex custom paint scheme is inspired by Harley-Davidson’s long and successful racing history. The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle factory team is defending its 2021 Moto America King of the Baggers championship, continuing a legacy established more than a century ago in racing of all kinds.

“The Apex factory livery gives riders the opportunity to express the thrill of speed and competition on their Baggers,” said Brad Richards, Vice President of Design and Creative Director – Motorcycles. “This paint scheme conveys speed and forward momentum with lines and colors inspired by Harley-Davidson competition motorcycles.”

The design features a graphic outline on the fuel tank that mimics the shape of the tank on the legendary Harley-Davidson XR750 flat track racing machine.

On models with fairings, the graphic sweeps back to match the tank graphic, leading at an angle that suggests speed.

The lines on the front fender visually connect with those on the side panels and saddlebags, creating a flowing effect.

Viewed in profile, the motorcycle appears to be in motion.

The color scheme starts with a base coat of Vivid Black. A graphic element adds Gauntlet Gray panels surrounded by an accent stripe in Jet Fire Orange – the original color of the XR750 competition models.

Each panel features inner drop shadows and a Bar & Shield pattern that fades in and out as the scheme progresses. This fading effect was inspired by the checkered fading seen on Harley-Davidson Factory Team race bikes. The clear coat is applied as the final layer.

The Apex Custom paint is applied at Harley-Davidson York Vehicle Assembly and Harley-Davidson Tomahawk Operations.
