1903: Founding of the Company

The first Harley-Davidson motorcycle was assembled in this wooden shed. The shed was later expanded to build more bikes, but very soon became much too small. Curiously, a version of the shed – shrunk back to “original size” – remained until the 1970s when it was accidentally demolished. In today’s Harley-Davidson Museum, an outline marker around the legendary “Number 1” displayed in the glass box marks the dimensions of the shed.

The outline of the shed frames the museum display of the “Number 1”. In this room are also numerous original documents from the founding period.
