Today in English!
“Sometimes its good to have a thing for your own, what is created by your own and what feels like your own.”
For an interview about our Battle of the Kings Bike Roar this year we got a visit from Harley-Davidson Europe from England. Benedict and Paul interviewed our custom bike specialist Thomas Emky, who has been responsible for this area here at Thunderbike for 16 years. Of course you always work in a team on such a huge project! Before such a big hit is created, design ideas, construction and production have to fit together. With the Roar, the guys took an example from the past times of custom bike building here in the forge. Many bikes were equipped in the early days as drag style bikes with big wheels and a new front end. Back to the Roots: this was the basis for the project for this year’s Battle.
Our Roar should get a Power Cruiser look from the beginning. For the last battles, some Sportster models have already been refined for the dynamic look: This time it should be something new – that’s what the brand new FXDR model was all about. The bike should be more dynamic and even more racing. Since the suspension of this model already offers a perfect base, this model seemed more than suitable for such a conversion.
Andreas, too, moved in front of the lens and tells exactly how his BOTK project came about. Andreas has been in the business for 34 years now and started mainly with racing bikes. “Sometimes it’s good to design something for yourself so that it feels like your own,” he tells us about his projects. With this successful concept, several championship winners have already been created in this forge. The influence of these racing genes is still felt today through bike concepts.
