New at Thunderbike!

Bye bye Sporty!

No new of these kind of cult

American Freedom Machine

Have you already taken a look at Harley’s 2021 model year? As you can see in our gallery with the new bikes, there are again a lot of exciting motorcycles. Lots of power, lots of chrome, lots of color.

Did you also notice that there are a few less models than usual? For example, the FXDR is missing, from which we have built some really cool customs (by the way, for that kind of conversion we will take the Breakout in the future). What is also missing are the Street models and unfortunately also the entire Sportster series…

This is meant quite literally: We will miss the Sportster. For decades it has accompanied us, for many generations it was considered the entry model into the Harley world and we will continue to see copies of all eras on our roads – just no more new Sportys, with the model year 2020 was the end.

With Ü60 the Sporty goes into retirement

In the more than 60 years that the company has always presented us with new models of this series, there have been real bangers like the Forty-Eight and also less popular ones, such as the Roadster.

And yes, even Harley’s cult designer Willie G. Davidson once misjudged when he designed a kind of cafe racer with the XLCR, which was simply 30 years ahead of the general hype about this type of construction. But otherwise, the developers of the Sporty could always be relied upon. On their cult factor. On their character. On their almost infinite conversion possibilities. So the last series was now the last Rappelbox from Milwaukee.

Of course, we still have a wide range of Sportster parts in our online store and some Sporty lovers in our team who can advise you.

With 107 cubic inches (1750 cc), the Milwaukee-Eight is the smallest Harley engine at the moment. It is very popular in both engine versions (107 and 114 cui) and is, for example, in the Softail Standard and in the Street Bob also popular with beginners.

In spring 2021, a newly developed 1250 cc engine will be presented with the Pan America. Our mechanics have already been to the training and at the public launch on February 22, 2021 at 5 pm we will all find out more.

If you are interested in watching the presentation of the Pan America, you can register here on the Harley-Davidson website.  All bikers welcome!

Our team in Hamminkeln looks back on many beautiful Sportster projects. Most recently it was our Emperor, which caused a worldwide sensation at the Battle King of Kings and is now the Daily Rider of Kim Bergerforth. An uber-sporty, so to speak, as a tribute to a cult machine to which we respectfully say bye-bye.

We already celebrated the cult machine with the Black Power, our contribution to the 2017 Battle of the Kings based on the Sportster 883.

Our Sporty conversions are as diverse as their fans and of course they weren’t always that mega projects. With this perfect base, we were able to implement a number of ideas, most recently a little more dignified as with the Forester or a little fancier as with the Wildblood and the Starmind or even relatively simple as with the Vancy.

Very often it was also a Sportster that was taken for cool independend customs. The Forty-Eight from Tattoo Artist Norman is such an example and also the Lucky 13 as a personal bike of our Customschrauber Reiner.

You are Sporty-Lover?

Not often, but sometimes we are lucky to get a used Sportster, check out our used bikes from time to time.

You’re thinking about a new Softail?

We have a lot of them in our showroom, some of the 2021 model year has already arrived and we are waiting for you to try out the seats and take a test ride (opening hours and Corona conditions, currently the lockdown still applies).
